New Technology to Expand Health Care Access in Colleton County Schools

I would describe Colleton
County as a rural school district. We are about eighty two percent free and reduced lunch. The concern that we had here was we had high absentee rates. In a number of students the only
resort was the emergency room. So we needed to find a way where
parents felt I can still send my child to school and I
find out what’s going on. We started talking about
Telehealth about two years ago. So we’re doing a phase in of the
program. With our middle school being as large as it is with thirteen hundred students. We felt like
this would be a good place to start the Telehealth
initiative here in the district. I can now come to my child’s
school or send my child to school and get a diagnosis from a specialist from MUSC. We brought this here to share the access to healthcare. But two to also minimize disruptions in our normal lives because of healthcare. I can go into my nurse’s office here at the Colleton County Middle School and get the support that I need. So it’s all here to support the parent and that child. ♪
